Despacito is a 2017 song made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just 6 months. In 2017, the song Despacito, a mixture of reggaeton with pop music was not only a way to bring new focus to reggaeton, but also sparked interest in Latin music. In 2015 there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017 19 songs mostly made in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in the year 2020. A new band, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. He incorporated electronic dance styles and other genres into his songs.
